Help — How to use Outdoor Energy Adventures
Welcome to the OEA website. This guide covers the key tasks for members, event hosts, and admins.
Getting started
- Log in via
/loginusing your email and password, or via Google. If you are new, your account must be created first — an admin will be notified and will approve you by assigning theuserrole. - Your name and avatar come from your profile or Google account. Keep your profile up to date at
/profile.
Events
Viewing events
/shows the next event and a short list of upcoming events./eventlists all events grouped by month, with upcoming and past sections./event/{slug}shows a single event with details, map, weather, RSVPs, and photos./calendarshows a monthly calendar with event dots.
Creating an event
Event creation is available to members with the user role.
- Go to
/eventand click Create Event (or use the quick create on the homepage if present). - Fill in Title — the slug is auto-generated but you can edit it.
- Add Description (Markdown supported), Date, Time, Duration, Place, Location (street address for maps), Difficulty, Tags, Organizer, and RSVP limit.
- Add a Cover image via URL or file upload — a preview will appear.
- Choose Status:
Published(visible),Draft(hidden), orCancelled. - Click Save. The event appears immediately in the appropriate month.
Editing and deleting events
- On an event detail page, if you are the event's creator or an admin, an Edit Event button appears in the hero. On mobile it shows as a pencil icon to save space.
- Click it to edit any field and save. Changes are live immediately.
- Deleting an event will also remove its RSVPs and photos (cascade delete). Use Delete from the admin events table or the edit dialog's delete action and confirm.
Admin controls
Admin pages are under /admin and require the admin role.
Managing users — /admin/users
- Lists all users with name, email, and roles.
- Admins can see user emails (non-admins cannot).
- To approve a new registration: find the new user (they will have no
userrole yet), click Edit, checkuser(andadminif they should be an admin), and save. - New registrations also trigger an email to all existing admins with a link to
/admin/users. - Only admins and superusers can change roles. Regular users who try to change their own roles will be blocked.
Managing events — /admin/events
- Table of all events with creator, date, place, difficulty, and status.
- Create, Edit, and Delete from this table. Dates are shown as
YYYY-MM-DDand do not wrap. - Use this view for bulk management and to clean up past events.
RSVPs
- On an event page, use the RSVP buttons to mark Going, Maybe, or Can't.
- The count of
going(including guests) is shown on cards and the detail page. - You can change your RSVP at any time.
Photos
- On an event page, the Photos section shows a grid of uploaded images.
- Use the camera and gallery buttons to upload — you must be logged in.
- Photos can be deleted by the event owner or an admin via the small × overlay on each photo (no confirmation).
Tips
- Keep tags accurate — they drive the colored labels and filters. Available tags:
Kayak, Hike, Bike, Beach, Camping, Social, Other. - Difficulty helps members choose appropriate events:
Easy,Easy-Moderate,Moderate,Challenging. - The site is a private group —
